Day 2: Sukau

Sukau @ Natural World Safaris

In the morning make your way to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre located in the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. Learn about the centre’s rehabilitation of young orphan or displaced orang utans before heading along the boardwalk to the feeding platform to watch them being fed.

Afterwards, continue for 2.5 hours drive through the rustic countryside dotted with quaint villages before embarking on a short boat transfer to the Borneo Nature Lodge. After check-in, relax by the river before heading upstream for an exciting river safari. Cruise Sabah’s longest river, the Kinabatangan River, with the opportunity to spot local wildlife, including the rare proboscis monkey.

Back at the lodge, enjoy a hearty dinner before spending the night in the jungle.

Day 3: Sukau
Wake up to the call of wild birds and other animals greeting the dawn from the surrounding jungle. Then, make an early start on a cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap Ox-Bow Lake for some morning bird watching and wildlife tracking. Then, embark on a short jungle trek through the Borneo wilderness before returning to the lodge for breakfast.

Enjoy the afternoon at your leisure with the option to explore nearby villages or the surrounding rainforest. In the evening, embark on a night river cruise to view nocturnal animals on the prowl. Spend the night back at the lodge.

Day 4: Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu @ Cikzuzu

Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the lodge and head to Gomantong Cave, known for its edible bird nests formed by native swiftlets. Venture along the nearby boardwalk before descending into the caverns of Semut Hitam Cave.

In the afternoon, make your way to Sandakan for an afternoon city tour, stopping at the Water Village, Central Wet Market and the Buddhist temple.

In the evening, transfer to the airport for your evening flight to Kota Kinabalu. Arrive in Kota Kinabalu where your driver will transfer you to your resort by private, air-conditioned vehicle.

Day 5: Kota Kinabalu
In the morning, embark on a full day of sun and sand. First, head to the Tunku Adbul Rahman Marine Park by boat before jumping overboard and snorkelling in its pristine waters. Swim, scuba dive or simply relax on the white sands before enjoying a barbecue on the beach for lunch.

A different option will allow you to trek across to Gaya Island, crossing through unspoilt rainforest and along planks through the wetlands. Or, alternatively, go on a leisurely dive for a more detailed look at life under the water.

Day 6: Kota Kinabalu
In the morning, make your way to Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, managed by the Sabah Wildlife Department. Occupying 280 acres and home to a fascinating collection of tropical animals, it is one of the largest wildlife parks in the Malaysia. The park’s clever design also uses water and low vegetation as barriers, allowing for a more open and intimate viewing experience, as well as exquisite photos.

Stop by the park’s education facilities to learn more about its wild residents. Later, head to the botanical garden filled with exotic local plant species, including the carnivorous pitcher plant.

Day 7: Kinabalu Park
In the morning, venture across the mountainous Crocker Range, offering panoramic views of the entire countryside. En-route to Kinabalu Park, catch a glimpse of the majestic Mount Kinabalu, one of Southeast Asia tallest peaks.

Hike through the World Heritage-listed Kinabalu Park, renowned for its exquisite natural reserves and a haven for nature enthusiasts. On arrival, enjoy a guided nature trek along one of its many trails before taking a dip in the Poring Hot Sulphur Springs.

Afterwards, scale the high canopy walk - 41m above the forest floor - for a closer look at branch-slinging wildlife and a spectacular view of the Borneo Rainforest.

Day 8 - 9: Kota Kinabalu
A day of leisure to enjoy your resort’s facilities and optional activities including water-based activities and tours to nearby villages.
